DESCRIPTION:
EPW - H. Redard, Genève, 39mm, 18K gold OF original case with superb polychrome enameled rear scene of Madonna with child, perimeter border of gold foliage against a blue basse-taille background, signed gold cuvette, white enamel dial, KWKS, cylinder escapement, 10J, gilt mvt, s#1833 within case. Gross weight of assembled watch 26.6 dwt (41.3 g). The beautiful rear scene of this case is after Raphael's 1513/4 painting "Madonna della Seggiola" (Madonna of the chair), which is currently held in the Palazzo Pitti collection in Florence, Italy. The representation of this image to the present case is greatly similar to Raphael's original apart from its notable omission of John the Baptist behind the seated Madonna and child.
CONDITION:
Mvt: Running, fine cosmetic mvt condition overall, splotchy toning of gilt surfaces; nearly flawless dial with few very small fine scratches; excellent hands; case with soldered repair to rear hinge which is evident to exterior and has been largely covered with gilt colored material, case shows little wear, mild ding to band at 5, enameling to rear is substantially intact with scattered surface scratches and fine scratches, small area of repair at lower edge of scene, few small areas of soft enamel repair to blue perimeter border at left edge and upper edge; tight bow; good glass crystal.
